Museum

The museum is where you can see what this website looked like and was about/what happened since it's launch!

2002

June 2002: After Dave's old website, Ultimate Emulation Board (UEB) was closed down by it's web host, he started planning the launch of a new emulation forum, using an old closed message forum name, Brit Board (which was originally launched by britroms.com in 2001.) The Brit Board name was then changed to buttonBASH! after deciding that using the Brit Board name would be too controversial (thousands of people hated the original Brit Board!)

June 2002

July 2002: Dave then started talking to a friend (Kez) in a Leisure & Tourism lesson at secondary school, and decided to start designing the website in that very lesson! Also Dave and Kez teamed up with another friend from secondary school (Furbag) to create the main buttonBASH! website team.

August 2002: The domain buttonbash.com was purchased and a phpBB message forum was setup and launched. The forum started to slowly gain members, including old members of UEB and Brit Board, members of Emu World, Emulation Galaxy and DC Emulation. The forum was left for 2 weeks under the control of Furbag while Dave was on holiday, during this period there was a massive revolt from an old member of Emu World for being banned.

August 2003

September 2002: Version 1 of the website was launched during September featuring ROM and emulator downloads. Unfortunately, the only screen dump we have of version 1 is missing the images (yes it really is that old!) If anyone has a screen dump of version 1, please submit it to us!

September 2002

November 2002: Version 2 of the website was launched, the layout was designed by our forum member, Xaos, and it looked fantastic, the website basically featured the same content as version 1.

December 2002: By this time the message forum had over 500 registered members.

2003

January 2003: Version 2 of the website was removed to make way for Version 3, which was a PHP Nuke website, unfortunately the password for the PHP Nuke system was given to someone who wasn't as trustworthy as we thought and the password was passed onto to another person who deleted most of the websites content and forced the website and forum offline, leaving everything from August 2002 to January 2003 gone, which was deemed 'the end' of buttonBASH!

February 2003: A temporary web page was put up on the buttonbash.com domain which the splash page (pictured) linked to when the visitor click on 'enter website',
the web page had an explanation of what happened during January 2003. Also during this month a temporary Invision Power Board message forum was setup by Dave so the old members of buttonBASH! could still talk to old members.

February 2003

March 2003: Dave completed and launched version 4 (also named version X) of buttonBASH!, which was designed by Neil (webmaster of angelroms.com) and was no longer an emulation website (as we could not find a suitable host for an emulation website) the website featured over 30 online games. Also a phpBB message forum was added to the website, where all the temporary message forum users registered.

March 2003

August 2003: The website was then moved to our old web host who hosted version 1 of the website, the phpBB forum was converted across and version 5 of the website was launched, which was back focusing on emulation. Also during this month we held a 'Member of the year 2002-2003' competition on the message forum which was won by Xaos.

August 2003

October 2003: Version 6 of the website starts development.

December 2003: The phpBB forum was converted to vBulletin to allow our users to have more features.

December 2003

2004

April 2004: Version 6 of the website is close to completion and the website is moved to a new web host, vBulletin was then converted to the new host which nearly resulting in all of the forum database being lost, we were very lucky that our old host had an up to date backup and converted the forum across successfully for us! Dave nearly killed himself when he saw that the 'users' table of the vBulletin MySQL database was missing!

May 2004: Version 6 of the website is launched.

May 2004

August 2004: During this month we held the 'Member of the year 2003-2004' competition on the message forum which was won by poke50uk.

2005

Early 2005: The website was barely updated in early 2005, due to Dave finishing off college, this led to the website losing thousands of visitors.

Summer 2005: Dave and Kez got together again to discuss the website, and change some things around the place... the forum team now consists of original members Dave, Kez and Furbag.

August 2005: During this month we held the 'Member of the year 2004-2005' competition on the message forum which was won by Soylent Green.

October 2005: All the changes made by Dave & Kez in the summer pay off with thousands of visitors returning every day.  Dave is at work on a new embedded forum skin!
